Antaviana VFX & Postproduction: Elevating Spanish Cinema at the 77th Edition of the Locarno Film Festival
From August 7th to 17th, the Swiss city of Locarno once again became the global epicenter of auteur cinema. The Locarno International Film Festival, with a history dating back to 1946, remains an essential event for filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals, and this year, Antaviana had the honor of being part of this exceptional event.
In this 77th edition, Antaviana VFX & Postproduction has strengthened our commitment to emerging cinema by sponsoring the Antaviana Films First Look Award, a prize valued at up to €50,000 in postproduction services. This award, presented within the framework of the FIRST LOOK section of Locarno Pro, which this year focused on Spanish cinema, was granted in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Culture through the ICAA and ICEX Spain Export and Investment. It was awarded to the film Dream of Another Summer, directed by Irene Bartolomé (Spain/Lebanon), a work that stands out for its artistic proposal and its ability to captivate with a powerful visual narrative.
Catalan Cinema in Locarno
It is important to highlight the presence of Catalan projects in this edition of the festival, with four films selected. Among them, REINAS, distributed by us this September, was screened in the Piazza Grande, where it received the Audience Award, and SALVE MARIA, which competed in the international section and received a Special Jury Mention.
Connecting with the International Industry
Our participation in Locarno has not been limited to the granting of awards. With more than 3,000 industry professionals accredited, we have had the opportunity to connect with developing projects from Latin America, Switzerland, and Europe through the Open Doors and Match Me sections. Additionally, we have shared experiences on postproduction design and editing, discussing trends, challenges, and work methods with the new cinematic languages.
Our support for the Locarno Festival reflects Antaviana’s commitment to the future of cinema, especially to emerging Spanish talent. We are proud to have been part of this edition of the festival and to contribute to giving visibility to works like Dream of Another Summer, which testify to the power of cinema to explore and transform reality.
